February Meet Reviews
February is coming to a close and Championship Season is just around the corner. SWAT swimmers all had a chance to race one more time in 2026. 78 swimmers competed in the two meets. First, the Nova Tech and AA athletes raced with all their hearts February 14 and 15. The AAA swimmers competed a week later February 21. Collectively SWAT earned 154 personal bests across the two weekends. We had 14 swimmers swim 1500 Freestyle over the two weekends.
Miniwaves
At the Nova Tech meet Saturday, February 14, 15 Miniwaves swimmers jumped in at both ends of the pool. Many swimmers in the Participation Shallow End raced in their first 50m events. George made his Deep End debut in Level 1. Payton H will move into Level 2 in April after swimming under the 2:00 threshold in the 100 IM and Beverly will be debuting in the Deep End in Level 1 in April. As a group, Miniwaves made 18 best times. Highlight swims in the Shallow End include: Santino dropping 6 seconds in the 25 Free, and Beverly dropping 13 seconds in the 25 Fly. In the Deep End, the highlight swim is River cutting 8 seconds in the 50 Free.
Tidalwaves
Also in the afternoon, Nova Tech session we had 16 Tidalwaves swimmers racing. The group improved on 27 of their previous swims with several swimmers making first appearances in 100m events. After a massive debut swim in the 200m Free in her first Level 2 meet Robin will make the jump to AA. Including that swim Highlight swims for Tidalwaves are: Meredith cutting a massive 30 seconds in the 100 IM, and Kai cutting 12 seconds off his previous 100 Backstroke time.
Novice
8 Novice swimmers, 3 in the afternoon session and 5 in the AA sessions Saturday and Sunday morning, took to the lanes. 15 best times came from Novice groups swimmers. Luree made her racing debut after joining the club earlier in January. Alex and Victoria made strong enough impressions in their 200 Freestyles to make the jump to AA. Henry made his AA debut on Saturday morning swimming several events for the first time. Showcase swims from the Novice group are: Evan Larlee posting a 13 second best times in the 50 Back, and Victoria dropping 10 seconds in the 200 Free to graduate to AA.
Junior Provincial
21 Best times came from the 6 Junior Provincial swimmers, with each improving on at least 2 swims and most with at least one best time near or above 10 seconds of improvement. Patricia took off 9 seconds in the 400 Free in a final effort to qualify for the Maine Tour Team. Kayden took off 30 seconds in the 200 Breaststroke showcasing his improvement in his breaststroke kick.
Junior Atlantic
6 Junior Atlantic swimmers raced at the AA meet. 2 more raced the following weekend at the AAA meet. At Centennial Pool, the AA swimmers improved on 12 swims. Farrah raced in her first 1500 Freestyle. Isaiah took off 20 seconds in his 400 IM, and Madelynn raced her 200 Butterfly to a 5 second PB. Long Course at the AAA meet Jae and Wyatt also swam in their first 1500 Freestyle. Together they made 5 personal bests including a 27 second personal best from Wyatt in the 200 IM.
Senior Provincial
15 members of the Senior Provincial group raced over the two weekends. There were 9 best times from the 5 swimmers at the AA meet. Tatum raced in her first 1500 Freestyle beside Farrah from Junior Atlantic and met the AAA criteria in the 200 IM. She needs just one more AAA time to make to jump. Sam Strapps had the AA highlight swim with an 18 second best times in the 400 Free. At Dalplex, the following weekend, 10 Provincial swimmers earned 32 best times. Elyse, Charlotte, Marco, Erica R, Ryan, and Alex W competed in their first 1500 Freestyle events, while Maggie and Nick swam their first LCM 1500 Free. Erica R also met the East Coast Champ standard in the 200 Fly after an 18 second PB qualifying her to race at the end of March. Highlight swims at the AAA meet are: Addison cutting 32 seconds and swimming under 21 minutes in the 1500 Free, and Alex W cutting 21 seconds in his 400 Free.
Senior Atlantic
Senior Atlantic sent 6 swimmers to race at the AAA meet. They earned 11 best times. Julia was a perfect 4-from-4 including a 31 second best time in the 1500 Free. Maria had a quality 200 Breaststroke shaving a big 25 second chunk off her previous Long Course time.
Senior National
There were 4 best times from the 4 National athletes. In a bit of a surprise considering the current training environment and perhaps the Highlight of both meets: Gabriel A dropped 4 seconds from his previous 200 Back qualifying for the Canadian Open in April and meeting the Junior Trials Standard to swim at the Canadian Swimming Trials in July.
The turnaround is fast with Nova Scotia Winter Champs kicking off at Dalhousie Thursday, March 5 to Sunday, March 8. AA and AAA swimmers will get their second opportunity at Heats and Finals and a chance for some hardware. This is a Co-hosted event between SWAT and Swim NS so please help the club maintain its reputation for being one of the best at hosting and running meets. The following week during March Break 10 SWAT swimmers are joining Team NS for a tour meet to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. At the end of March, East Coast Championships welcomes the best swimmers from across Eastern Canada to Halifax. SWAT qualifiers will get to see where they stack up against swimmers and clubs from New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland, and the local Nova Scotians. The Final meet of Championship Season is the Canadian Open in Edmonton in Early April. Qualifiers will swim against the absolute best the country has to offer. Nova Tech resumes in April.
